What it costs

Spain is the cheapest of the big Schengen destinations to apply to from the UK, and the reason is simple: BLS International, which runs Spain's UK visa centres, charges one of the lowest service fees of any operator. Every figure below was checked against the official source on 24 June 2026.

Three things to know about that breakdown. First, the €90 consulate fee is fixed EU-wide: it is identical for every Schengen country, no service of any kind can discount it, and it is non-refundable if the application is refused. Children aged 6 to 11 pay a reduced €45, and children under 6 pay nothing. Second, the £14.85 is a verified figure, not an estimate, taken straight from the official BLS tourist visa page. Third, the insurance line is a floor: Schengen rules require at least €30,000 of medical cover, and policies meeting that spec start from about £12 for a short trip.

What can add to the cost

The £108 assumes a standard appointment with no add-ons. BLS, like every visa centre, offers optional extras that raise the total if you take them: courier return of your passport instead of collecting it in person, prime time appointments outside standard hours, and an on-site photo service if your photos do not meet the spec. Cheaper and pricier alternatives

If cost is the deciding factor, Spain is hard to beat from the UK. The Netherlands comes close at about £111 per adult thanks to VFS Global's £18 fee, but most other major destinations cost noticeably more: Italy comes to around £125 and Germany around £128 once their higher centre fees are included. The catch is that you cannot simply pick the cheapest country. Schengen rules say you must apply to your main destination, the country where you will spend the most nights, so the comparison only matters if your itinerary genuinely centres on Spain.
