TL;DR
To get a Slovenia Schengen visa from the UK you apply through VFS Global (London, Manchester or Edinburgh): complete the application, book a VFS appointment, and attend to give biometrics and submit documents. Applications from Manchester or Edinburgh route via London first, so allow a little extra time.

How to apply
- Complete the application following the Embassy of Slovenia visa information and VFS Global's portal, and pay the fee.
- Book a VFS Global appointment in London, Manchester or Edinburgh.
- Prepare your documents — see the full Schengen document checklist.
- Attend your appointment to give biometrics (fingerprints + photo) and submit.
- Wait for the decision — 15 calendar days once the Slovenian mission has your file, up to 45, plus transit.
A London-hub processing quirk
Slovenia runs its main centre in London, with satellite centres in Manchester and Edinburgh. If you apply in Manchester or Edinburgh, your file is first dispatched to VFS London and forwarded from there — so VFS advises adding about 2 extra days to your minimum timeline. The 15-day processing clock only starts once the Slovenian mission actually receives your application, so build in this buffer when planning around your travel date.
When to apply to Slovenia
Apply to Slovenia only if it's your main destination — where you'll spend the most nights — or your first point of entry if your trip is evenly split (see which country to apply to). A trip to Ljubljana, Lake Bled, the Julian Alps or the Postojna Cave makes Slovenia the country to apply to. Slovenia is small and often combined with Italy, Austria or Croatia, so if you'll spend more nights in one of those, apply there instead — applying to the wrong country is a common refusal reason.
When to apply — timing and the summer peak
You can lodge up to 6 months before travel and at least 15 days before. Slovenia's busiest period is the summer — Lake Bled and the Adriatic coast around Piran draw the crowds — so VFS appointment slots tighten from late spring. Apply early and check all three cities for availability.
What you'll need
The standard Schengen document set: a passport issued within the last 10 years and valid at least 3 months beyond your trip, the completed application, a recent photo, proof of UK residence, confirmed travel and accommodation bookings, an itinerary, recent bank statements, €30,000+ travel insurance, and strong evidence you'll return to the UK — the leading reason these applications are refused for UK-resident non-EU nationals.
