Questions people ask before paying
- Who needs an Irish visa from the UK?
- Anyone living in the UK whose passport is on the Irish Immigration Service's visa-required list: Indian, Chinese, Nigerian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Filipino, Thai and Vietnamese nationals among many others. British, Irish, EU, US, Canadian and Australian passports visit without a visa. An Indian or Chinese national whose UK visitor visa is endorsed BIVS can visit Ireland on that visa.
- Can I apply while visiting the UK?
- No. Only people living in the UK may apply from the UK, and the visa office asks for UK permission valid at least three months beyond your return. A visitor's application is refused, so the plan asks about your UK status before anything is paid.
- What does the £99 cover, and what do I still pay?
- The £99 is our service fee for the first applicant, with £69 for each additional applicant on the same order: the AVATS form completed with you, your document pack, your VFS lodging appointment booked with you, and a written summary for the day. You pay the official visa fee when you lodge, £51 single journey or £86 multiple journey unless your nationality is exempt, plus the VFS service fee shown on the VFS booking page. Neither passes through us.
- Who pays no visa fee?
- Many nationalities are exempt from the Irish visa fee, including long-term UK residents from the Short Stay Visa Waiver list such as Indian, Chinese, Filipino, Thai and Vietnamese nationals. Nigerian, Pakistani and Bangladeshi nationals pay. The VFS service fee is charged whether or not you are exempt.
- Where do I lodge, and how long does it take?
- By appointment at a VFS Irish Visa Application Centre in London, Manchester, Edinburgh, Birmingham or Cardiff, in person with your originals. From Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man you post the application to the Embassy in London instead. London's target for visit visas is 45 days from lodging, and you can apply up to three months before you travel.
- Can you guarantee the visa, or help if it is refused?
- No, and nobody honest can. The Irish Visa Office decides, and since 1 June 2026 there is no appeal against a short-stay refusal; the only route is a new application. What we do is make the form right and the file complete, and if your application is not prepared within 24 hours of your complete documents and details, you get the service fee back.
