What this is
This is the UK→Schengen Visa Cost Index — every Schengen destination ranked by what a short-stay visa actually costs to apply for from the United Kingdom in 2026. It is the only place we know of that pairs each country's visa-centre service fee with its source and a verification tag, so you can see not just the number but where it came from and how sure we are of it.
Two things drive the cost. The consulate fee is fixed EU-wide at €90 (≈£81) for adults — identical for every country, and not something any service can discount. What varies is the visa application centre's service fee, charged by whichever operator a country uses in the UK (VFS Global, TLScontact, BLS International or GVC World). That fee ranges from about £10 to £36 — and Poland and Luxembourg charge nothing at all, because you apply directly at their London embassy with no outsourced centre.

How we built it (methodology)
- We took each country's official UK visa-centre page (or embassy page) and read the current service fee off it on 24 June 2026. Every figure links to its source.
- DIY total = the €90 consulate fee (≈£81) + that country's centre fee + ~£12 travel insurance — i.e. what you pay if you do the whole thing yourself. It does not include any agency or service fee.
- Where a fee is stated in euros (some VFS pages quote EUR, paid in GBP at the daily rate), we convert at €1 = £0.90 and round up, so the figure is never understated.
- Where we could not confirm an exact fee from a primary source — France and Germany (the TLScontact pages are behind bot-protection) and Italy, Slovakia and Romania (VFS does not publish the UK fee) — we show a labelled estimate, never a precise figure dressed up as fact. 22 of the 28 are verified-exact.

What it means in practice
If you are flexible about which Schengen country you apply through (you must apply to your main destination, or where you spend the most time — you can't simply pick the cheapest), the spread is real but modest: roughly £40 per adult between the cheapest and the most expensive once you include everything. For most people the bigger cost is a refusal — losing the consulate fee, the centre fee and any non-refundable bookings — which is why getting the application right matters more than shaving a few pounds off the centre fee.
If you'd rather not deal with any of it, our done-for-you Schengen service handles the whole application for one all-in price and we pay these fees on your behalf — see exactly what's inside the price or how we compare with other UK services.

Common questions
- 01
Which Schengen country is cheapest to get a visa from the UK?
On total DIY cost, Estonia is the cheapest country that uses a visa centre — its VFS service fee is just £10.35, so the total is about £104 per adult (consulate fee + centre fee + insurance). Poland and Luxembourg are cheaper still on the centre-fee line because you apply directly at the embassy with no outsourced centre fee at all.
- 02
Why does the Schengen visa cost more from some UK countries than others?
The €90 consulate fee is identical everywhere. What varies is the visa application centre's service fee: VFS Global, TLScontact, BLS and GVC each charge differently, from about £10 (Estonia) to £36 (Iceland). France and Germany (TLScontact) sit at the top end. Poland and Luxembourg charge no centre fee because applications go directly to the embassy.
- 03
Is the €90 Schengen consulate fee the same for every country?
Yes — €90 for adults, €45 for children aged 6–11, and free under 6, set EU-wide and identical across all member states. The one exception is Romania, whose short-stay visa fee is €80. No agency can reduce the consulate fee; it is also non-refundable if the visa is refused.
- 04
How accurate are these figures?
Each visa-centre fee was checked against the official operator or consulate page on 24 June 2026 and is tagged Verified, Approx, or Estimate with a source link. 22 of 28 are verified exact; France, Germany, Italy, Slovakia and Romania could not be confirmed from a primary source (the pages are bot-protected or the fee is unlisted), so those are shown as clearly labelled estimates, never as fact.
