What a France visa costs from the UK
A France Schengen visa from the UK costs about £138 per adult if you apply yourself, and £99 more if we prepare the file and register you. Every line, who collects it, and when:

The €90 consulate fee
The consulate fee is set EU-wide: €90 for adults, €45 for children aged 6 to 11, free under 6. It is identical for every Schengen country, no agency can discount it, and it is non-refundable if the visa is refused. The site converts it at a planning rate of €1 = £0.90, so about £81; the pounds you actually pay follow the rate on the day.
TLScontact's fee, and why we quote a range
France's UK applications run through TLScontact in London (Wandsworth), Manchester and Edinburgh, and TLScontact charges its own service fee per applicant. The exact UK figure is not published on an open page, so we will not invent one. France-Visas states that the external provider's fee is set between €40 and €55, which is about £36 to £50; we budget £45, and that is the figure in our cost index. You see the exact amount when you pay. It is the highest centre fee of any Schengen operator in the UK: Spain's BLS charges £14.85 and the Netherlands' VFS £18, which is why France sits near the top of the UK Schengen cost index.
When the fees are paid
Since the UK centres moved to automatic allocation (London and Manchester from 1 August 2026, Edinburgh from 11 September 2026), you no longer pay at a counter after picking a date. You register after validating the France-Visas form, TLScontact emails the allocated appointment, and you have 12 hours to pay for it; the appointment cannot be rescheduled. The order of events is on the TLScontact France appointment page. Completing the France-Visas form itself costs nothing.
Insurance and the optional extras
Every Schengen application needs travel insurance with at least €30,000 of medical and repatriation cover, valid across the whole Schengen area for the whole trip. Compliant single-trip policies start at about £12 for a short trip; the price rises with age, trip length and medical history. The travel insurance guide says what the certificate must show.

A family example
Two adults and an 8-year-old applying themselves: consulate fees of €90 + €90 + €45 (about £203), three TLScontact fees (about £135), and insurance for three. A realistic family total is about £375 before travel costs. What a refusal really costs
If the application is refused you lose the consulate fee, the TLScontact fee and any non-refundable bookings, then pay the fees again to reapply. France refused 10,994 UK applications in 2025, 8.5% of 129,940, the largest number of refusals of any Schengen state's UK operation.
