The numbers first
Typical prices checked in August 2026. The pass price is the official 2026 Swiss Travel System rate; the rest are aggregator "from" ranges:
| Item | Typical price | In AED (approx) |
|---|---|---|
| Dubai to Zurich return | from AED 1,100 to 1,800 | 1,100 to 1,800 |
| Swiss Travel Pass, 4 days, 2nd class | CHF 309 | 1,403 |
| Lucerne budget hotel, per night | wide spread, from about USD 113 | from 415 |
| Interlaken hostel dorm, per night | CHF 30 to 60 | 136 to 272 |
| Schengen visa consulate fee (adult) | EUR 90 | about 388 |
Five days per person sharing, excluding food: roughly AED 3,100 to 4,700. A note on food: Switzerland is expensive and we could not verify a reliable daily figure, so plan that line generously; supermarkets (Coop, Migros) are the budget traveller's kitchen.
Day by day
- Day 1: land in Zurich, activate the pass, train to Lucerne (about 45 minutes). Evening on the Chapel Bridge. Sleep in Lucerne.
- Day 2: lake boat (covered by the pass) and Mount Rigi or Pilatus (pass discounts apply on the mountain sections). Second Lucerne night.
- Day 3: the Luzern to Interlaken Express over the Brünig pass, one of the pass's flagship scenic legs. Afternoon at Lake Brienz. Sleep in Interlaken.
- Day 4: Lauterbrunnen valley and Grindelwald by covered rail; the Jungfraujoch section costs extra even with the pass, so budget it separately or skip it for the equally scenic valley floor. Second Interlaken night.
- Day 5: morning train to Zurich (about 2 hours), fly home.
The visa, without an agency
Switzerland switched to VFS Global in the UAE in July 2025; complete the online form before booking your biometrics slot in Dubai or Abu Dhabi. The consulate fee is €90. Standard processing is 15 calendar days after biometrics. The full UAE process is in our UAE application hub.
We prepare the whole application for £69, about AED 345: forms, document pack matched to the Swiss checklist, appointment plan, prepared within 24 hours of receiving your documents or your fee back. Dubai agencies charge around AED 850 for the same work.

Common questions
- 01
How much does a Switzerland trip from Dubai cost?
Roughly AED 3,100 to 4,700 per person sharing for 5 days, excluding food: flights AED 1,100 to 1,800 return, the 4-day Swiss Travel Pass at CHF 309, and 4 nights of budget accommodation. Hostel dorms at CHF 30 to 60 a night pull the low end down further.
- 02
Is the Swiss Travel Pass worth it?
For this itinerary, yes. The 4-day pass is CHF 309 second class at the official 2026 rate and covers every intercity train, the lake boats and city transport, including the Lucerne and Interlaken legs that would otherwise be booked separately. It also discounts most mountain railways by half.
- 03
Do UAE residents need a visa for Switzerland?
Emirati citizens do not. Most expatriate residents do: since July 2025 Switzerland uses VFS Global in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, with the online form completed before booking the appointment. The consulate fee is €90; VFS's Swiss service fee is not published on readable official pages.
- 04
When is Switzerland cheapest from Dubai?
October is typically the cheapest month to fly to Zurich, and it lands in shoulder season on the ground: summer crowds gone, mountain lines still running. August is the most expensive month for Lucerne hotels.
