Schengen Visa from the UAE (2026): Fees, Centres & How to Apply

Key facts

Most of the UAE's residents are expatriates, and most expatriates need a Schengen visa to visit Europe. You apply in the UAE, through the operator your destination country uses there, with a valid UAE residence visa. The consulate fee is the same €90 charged everywhere, converted to dirhams at each consulate's own rate, and each operator adds its own service fee. Emirati citizens do not need a visa at all.

Which operator handles your destination

This is where the UAE differs most from other countries, verified against each mission's official page on 22 August 2026:

Worth knowing: many older guides say France uses TLScontact in the UAE. The official France-Visas page now names only VFS Global; treat TLScontact-based instructions for France as outdated.

Also worth knowing: operators are country-specific, so a destination can use different companies in different places. Greece is handled by VFS Global here in the UAE, but by GVC World for applicants in the UK. Always follow the guidance for the country you are applying from.

What it costs from the UAE

Two parts, like everywhere in Schengen:

1. The consulate fee: €90 per adult, €45 for children 6 to 11, free under 6. It is charged in dirhams at each consulate's own exchange rate, and several missions accept cash only (Germany states cash AED explicitly). Spain's operator publishes the current conversion: AED 388 for adults, AED 194 for children.
2. The operator's service fee, which varies and is not always published. Verified figures: Spain (BLS) AED 73 including VAT, Greece (VFS) AED 88 per VFS's one-pager (the Greek MFA page still shows AED 80), France (VFS) €30.33 paid online at booking and non-refundable. The remaining operators do not publish their UAE fees on readable official pages; expect a comparable range.

Add mandatory travel insurance with at least €30,000 medical cover, and a realistic DIY total lands around AED 500 to 600 per adult for most destinations.

Rules that differ from applying elsewhere

• Residence permit runway. Germany and Austria require your UAE residence permit to stay valid roughly 3 months beyond the end of the visa you request. If your residence renewal is close, deal with that first.
• Emirates ID. Germany asks GCC-national applicants for a copy of a valid Emirates ID.
• Strict emirate jurisdiction. Germany and Italy route you by where your residence visa was issued, not where you live day to day.
• Cash payments. Bring dirhams: several consulates take the visa fee in cash only.
• Appointment pressure is real and official. Germany runs a formal waitlist with chronological notification; May to September is peak. Book as early as your dates allow; applications open 6 months before travel.

How to apply, step by step

1. Confirm your destination's operator and city in the table above, then check the official portal linked in our sources.
2. Complete the destination's application form (online where the country offers it).
3. Book the appointment with the right operator; France requires the service fee paid online at booking.

6. Standard processing is 15 calendar days, extendable to 45.
