Schengen Visa Appointments in Edinburgh: Centres and Slots

TL;DR

Edinburgh hosts centres for VFS Global (most Schengen states, including the Netherlands, Norway and Sweden), TLScontact (France, Germany, Belgium) and BLS International (Spain). Greece has no Edinburgh centre, Poland and Luxembourg take applications only in London, and Romania at its consulate in London or Manchester by region of residence. Slots release in batches; check the calendar at different times, apply up to six months ahead, consider London or Manchester where your country offers them, and avoid resold slots. Which centres run in Edinburgh

Edinburgh is the only Schengen application city in Scotland, and between them its three centres cover 24 of the 28 destinations UK residents apply for.

Who may use the Edinburgh centres

Three countries have rules about which of their UK centres you may use, and Edinburgh comes out well on all three.

• Germany assigns the centre by where you live: London and Manchester serve England, Wales and Northern Ireland, and Edinburgh serves Scotland. The embassy's waiting list through TLScontact, introduced in June 2026, names London and Manchester; Edinburgh is not named in that notice.
• France states there is no consular area inside the UK, so a resident of anywhere in the UK may use Edinburgh. There is no France calendar at any UK centre: TLScontact allocates short-stay appointments automatically, at London and Manchester since 1 August 2026 and at Edinburgh since 11 September 2026. You register, an appointment is emailed, you have 12 hours to pay, the date cannot be rescheduled, and a registration with no allocation after 60 days is deleted and must be made again.
• Spain lets you book any of its three BLS cities, but the London consulate lists proof of residence in its district among its documents. Residents of Scotland belong to Edinburgh.

VFS destinations generally accept any UK resident at any of their centres, so a Scottish applicant for Italy or Portugal can compare Edinburgh with London and Manchester, and a Netherlands, Norway or Sweden applicant anywhere in the UK has Edinburgh as one of only two choices.

Edinburgh in the 2025 numbers

European Commission figures for consulates that decide their own files show Edinburgh with lower refusal rates than the same state's London or Manchester consulate in 2025: Spain refused 2.2 percent of 17,180 applications in Edinburgh, against 5.9 percent in London and 8.0 percent in Manchester; Germany refused 1.2 percent of 1,798 in Edinburgh, against 3.3 percent in London. Bulgaria's Edinburgh consulate decided 44 applications. France decides every UK application in London whichever centre took it, so there is no Edinburgh figure for France.

The data gives counts, not reasons, and cannot say whether the gap lies in the consulates or in the files they receive. It is not a reason for anyone outside Scotland to lodge in Edinburgh, and it is a reason for everyone to lodge a complete file. How to get a slot

1. Match your country to its operator using the table above, and confirm on your destination consulate's official site.
2. Complete any consulate step that comes first. France-Visas generates the reference TLScontact needs; Denmark's ApplyVisa, Norway's UDI portal and Iceland's visa portal come before the VFS booking; Spain's form is inside the BLS flow.
3. Create an account on the operator's UK site in your own name: VFS at visa.vfsglobal.com, Spain at uk.blsspainvisa.com, France through the TLScontact portal.
4. Select Edinburgh and take a slot from the live calendar.
5. Attend in person to give biometrics and submit your documents, and choose courier return so the passport comes back without a second visit.

When slots open

Operators release slots in batches, not on a schedule, and nobody outside the operator knows when the next batch lands. Three patterns are worth knowing for Edinburgh:
