Schengen Visa from Leicester: Where to Apply (2026)

Leicester has no Schengen visa centre. Our £99 desk prepares the file and books London or Manchester: which countries go to which city, and the journey.

By findmyvisa Editorial TeamUpdated Verified · gov.uk·

TL;DR

There is no Schengen visa centre in Leicester or the East Midlands. Leicester residents lodge in London, which takes every country and is roughly an hour and a quarter by train, or in Manchester, which takes most countries but not the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Poland or Luxembourg (Romania has its own consulate in Manchester for applicants in its region). The file is prepared at home; the journey is for biometrics, once. Our desk prepares the file and books the slot for £99; you pay the official fees at the centre.

Is there a Schengen visa centre in Leicester?

No. The four operators that run UK Schengen centres, VFS Global, TLScontact, BLS International and GVC World, work from London, Manchester and Edinburgh, plus Cardiff for Lithuania, and Poland and Luxembourg take applications directly in London, Romania at its consulate in London or Manchester by region of residence. Nothing in Leicester, Nottingham, Derby, Northampton or Birmingham, which is covered in Schengen visa agents in Birmingham. We verified the operator assignments on 24 June 2026; if a Midlands centre ever opens it will show at the city-selection step on the operator's site.

Leicester sits between the two cities that matter, and that is useful: when one calendar is full the other may not be, and the main line to London makes a morning appointment and an afternoon home realistic.

Germany assigns the centre by where you live: London and Manchester serve England, Wales and Northern Ireland, so either works from Leicester. France states there is no consular area inside the UK, so all three centres are open; none shows a calendar, because TLScontact allocates appointments automatically, at London and Manchester since 1 August 2026 and at Edinburgh since 11 September 2026, emailing a date that must be paid for within 12 hours. Spain lets you book any BLS city, but the London consulate lists proof of residence in its consular district among its documents, and our sources do not record where the London and Manchester districts divide for the East Midlands, so check the consulate's page before booking.

London or Manchester

London is the one UK city where every Schengen country can be applied for, and from Leicester it is the shorter journey. Manchester covers the big destinations and often has a different calendar. Open both before settling a date: slots release in batches, and the appointment availability index shows the earliest slot our desk has seen for each destination. The London and Manchester guides list each city's centres by operator.

The European Commission publishes 2025 refusal rates by consulate where a state has more than one: Spain refused 5.9 percent in London and 8.0 percent in Manchester, Portugal 5.7 percent in London and 10.6 percent in Manchester. The data gives counts, not reasons, and it cannot say whether the gap lies in the consulates or in the files. It is a reason to lodge a complete file wherever you lodge it; see Schengen visa refusal rates from the UK.

Getting there and what to allow

Our sources do not record journey times, so these are loose: Leicester to London St Pancras is roughly an hour and a quarter by train; Leicester to Manchester roughly two hours by train or by car. The London centres are spread across the city, from Wandsworth for TLScontact France to the London consulates for Poland, Luxembourg and Romania, so add the Underground leg. Check times for the day you book, and allow around an hour at the centre, most of it queuing and document checks.

One visit does it for every country except Romania. Choose courier return at the counter and the passport comes back to Leicester once the decision is made; collection means a second trip. Romania requires collection in person at the consulate where you lodged, London or Manchester. Children under 12 do not give fingerprints but attend for the photo.

Steps

  1. Settle the country under the main-destination rule: the country with the most nights, or the first entered if equal. See which country to apply to.
  2. Create the account on the operator's official UK site in your own name, and complete any consulate form that comes first: France-Visas for France, the Spain form inside the BLS flow, the GVC registration and prepayment for Greece, e-Konsulat, eViza or an email for the three direct countries.
  3. Pick the city from the table and take a slot from the live calendar, or join the queue where one runs.
  4. Prepare the file at home: the standard Schengen document set, built with the checklist generator and assembled with the Bundler and Compressor.
  5. Travel once for biometrics, pay the official fees at the centre, and choose courier return.

Processing is 15 calendar days from the appointment as standard, up to 45 in some cases, and applications are accepted up to 6 months before travel. The appointment is usually the longer wait; see getting a Schengen appointment in the UK.

What it costs from Leicester

The consulate fee is 90 euros for an adult, about 81 pounds, 45 euros for children aged 6 to 11 and nothing under 6. The centre fee is from nothing for Poland, Luxembourg and Romania to about 45 pounds, paid at the centre, with Spain's BLS fee at £14.85 and Greece's GVC fee of £25.50 prepaid online at booking. Add travel insurance with at least 30,000 euros of medical cover and the train fare. Price the whole application with the cost calculator.

Prepared in Leicester, lodged in London or Manchester

Our desk prepares the whole application for a flat £99 service fee, any country: the form and any portal step, the document pack to the consulate's checklist, and the appointment on the operator's official system in your own name, in London or Manchester as the table above requires. The file is ready within 24 hours of your complete documents and details, and the appointment booked within 3 working days of a complete file, subject to availability, or the fee back. Full refund before work starts. You make the journey once, pay the official fees at the centre, and the consulate alone decides. Start at the plan step, or read what the Schengen visa service does and does not include. For the country most Leicester applicants ask about, see the Spain visa service.

Common questions

  1. 01

Is there a Schengen visa centre in Leicester?

No. On the operator assignments we verified on 24 June 2026, VFS Global, TLScontact, BLS International and GVC World run UK Schengen centres in London, Manchester and Edinburgh, with VFS adding Cardiff for Lithuania only, and Poland and Luxembourg take applications at their London consulates, Romania at its consulate in London or Manchester by region of residence. No Schengen country lists a centre in Leicester, Nottingham, Derby or anywhere in the Midlands. If one opens, it will appear at the city-selection step on the operator's site.

  2. 02

    London or Manchester from Leicester?

London is the only UK city where every Schengen country can be applied for, and it is roughly an hour and a quarter from Leicester by train. Manchester takes most countries, including Spain, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal and Greece, and is roughly two hours away. For the Netherlands, Norway and Sweden, London is the choice (their other city is Edinburgh); for Poland and Luxembourg, London is the only one, and Romania lodges at its consulate in London or Manchester by region of residence. Open both calendars before settling a date.

  3. 03

Where do Leicester residents apply for a Spain visa?

Through BLS International in London or Manchester, both open on the BLS booking site. The London consulate lists proof of residence in its consular district among its documents, and our sources do not record where the line between the London and Manchester districts runs for the East Midlands, so check the consulate's own page before you book. Spain's 2025 refusal rate was 5.9 percent in London and 8.0 percent in Manchester.

  4. 04

Do I have to travel twice?

Not for most countries. You attend once for fingerprints, a photo and the documents, and at the counter you choose courier return so the passport comes back to Leicester after the decision; collection means a second trip. Romania is the exception: its consulate requires you to collect the passport in person, so budget two journeys.

  5. 05

Can an agent in Leicester book my Schengen appointment?

An agent can prepare your file and book the appointment on the operator's official system for London or Manchester, which is what our desk does for a 99 pound service fee. No agent can create a Leicester appointment, because there is no centre, and no agent can guarantee a date, because slots are released in batches and consulates have voided bot-booked and resold appointments.
