TL;DR
Portugal visa help from the UK for a £99 service fee: we build your document pack to the Portuguese consulate's checklist, complete the form, and book your VFS Global appointment in London, Manchester or Edinburgh in your own name. Portugal refused 7.3% of UK applications in 2025, Manchester 10.6%, so the pack is checked first. You pay the official fees at the centre, attend biometrics, and the consulate decides. No bots, no bought slots.
Portugal from the UK: who takes the application
Portuguese short-stay applications in the UK go through VFS Global in London, Manchester and Edinburgh. Portugal is VFS, not TLScontact. Two Portuguese consulates decide: London and Manchester. The Edinburgh centre is a satellite under the Manchester consulate, so files lodged there go to VFS Manchester first, which can add about two days. In 2025 the London consulate decided 14,317 UK applications and Manchester 6,698. Booking is on visa.vfsglobal.com; the official Portuguese visa portal is vistos.mne.gov.pt.
The €90 consulate fee, about £81, and VFS's £32.85 service fee are paid at the centre (€45 for a child aged 6 to 11, free under 6). The VFS fee was verified on 24 June 2026. Standard processing is 15 calendar days from the appointment, up to 45 in some cases. Official fees are about £114 per adult.
The slot situation
Portugal draws heavy UK demand around holiday seasons, and VFS releases slots in batches with cancellations reappearing at unpredictable times. Any of the three centres can take your application, so the calendar that matters is whichever of the three shows a date you can reach. We do not quote a waiting time, because nobody outside VFS knows one. Applications can be lodged up to six months before travel.
Our desk logs the earliest Portugal slot it has actually seen at each centre and the day it saw it, and shows that reading on this page and the plan step while it is under three weeks old. When VFS shows no Portugal appointments at all, the booking promise is paused for Portugal and the plan step says so before you pay.
Why the pack matters for Portugal
In 2025 Portugal's UK consulates refused 1,533 of the 21,015 applications they decided, 7.3%, up from 3.4% in 2024. The split matters: London refused 5.7%, Manchester 10.6%. The consulates do not publish reasons by case and we never use these figures to predict an outcome. They do say a Portugal file is read, and the grounds within your control need closing before the appointment:
- The main destination. Lisbon, Porto, the Algarve, Madeira and the Azores trips usually make Portugal the right country. Combined with Spain, the country with the most nights decides, and the first entry if the nights are equal. We check this from your bookings before anything is booked.
- Flights and accommodation that match the form, for every night, with a day-by-day itinerary if you move around.
- Funds and ties: three to six months of bank statements, payslips, an employer or university letter, tenancy or property, family, and proof of your UK status: a BRP, an eVisa share code or the visa in your passport. Weak UK-ties evidence is the leading reason these applications are refused.
- Insurance with at least €30,000 of medical and repatriation cover for the whole Schengen area and the whole trip.
- Photos to the 35 by 45 mm specification and a passport issued within the last ten years with three months' validity beyond your return.
VFS staff check the file at the counter, and an incomplete submission can mean rebooking a slot you waited for.
What our desk does for a Portugal file
- Confirms the country from your itinerary and tells you if Portugal is not the one to apply to.
- Prepares the file within 24 hours of your complete documents and details: the form, the ordered document pack, the cover letter and the what-to-bring list. Miss that through our fault and the fee comes back.
- Checks all three VFS calendars by hand, London, Manchester and Edinburgh, every working day, and books the first date that fits your travel and the centre you can reach, in your own name, from an account in your name. On a tight timeline we say which centre feeds which consulate, since Edinburgh adds about two days through Manchester.
- Books within 3 working days of your complete file, subject to availability, or the fee comes back. If VFS shows no slots at all, the promise is paused and you are told before you pay.
- Briefs you for the day: what to bring, what to pay at the counter, how the passport comes back, and when to expect the decision.
We do not run bots or scripts against VFS Global's site, we never ask for your VFS password or one-time code, and we never buy or sell an appointment. If we have to ask you for a missing document, both clocks pause from our request until you have sent it.
What does not change
The consulate decides, and the 15-day clock starts at your appointment, not when you pay us. The official fees are the same whoever prepares the file: about £114 per adult for Portugal, paid by you at the centre, plus your own insurance. We do not refund on a refusal, because the decision is not what you buy; the £99 is refunded in full if you cancel before work starts. With under three weeks to travel we tell you whether a slot and a decision are realistic rather than take the fee.
Before you buy: the timing check
Work backwards from your departure: up to 15 calendar days from the appointment for the decision, sometimes up to 45, about two more if you lodge in Edinburgh, and before that whatever VFS releases. For a summer Algarve trip, a file completed in spring gives the desk room. If your trip is under three weeks away, read urgent Schengen visa from the UK first, or message the desk on WhatsApp at +44 7341 434824 with your dates and the centre you can reach. Replies come from a person, within the hour, day or night.

Common questions
- 01
What does the Portugal visa service include?
We confirm Portugal is the right country to apply to, complete the application form, build your document pack to the Portuguese consulate's checklist, book your VFS Global appointment in London, Manchester or Edinburgh in your own name, and give you a what-to-bring list for the day. Your file is ready within 24 hours of your complete documents and your appointment is booked within 3 working days of your complete file, subject to availability, or the service fee comes back.
- 02
How much does a Portugal visa cost from the UK with your service?
Our service fee is £99 for the first applicant and £69 for each extra applicant on the same order, up to five. The official fees are paid by you at the centre: the €90 consulate fee, about £81 (€45 for a child aged 6 to 11, free under 6), VFS Global's £32.85 service fee, verified on 24 June 2026, and travel insurance from about £12. About £114 per adult in official fees, which we never add to.
- 03
Which Portuguese consulate decides my application?
Portugal has two consulates deciding UK applications, London and Manchester. The Edinburgh VFS centre is a satellite under Manchester: files lodged there go to VFS Manchester first, which can add about two days. In 2025 London decided 14,317 applications and refused 5.7%; Manchester decided 6,698 and refused 10.6%. We book the centre you can reach and tell you which consulate your file goes to.
- 04
Can you get a VFS Portugal appointment faster?
We cannot create a slot. VFS releases Portugal appointments without notice, and demand builds around holiday seasons. What we do is check all three calendars by hand every working day, London, Manchester and Edinburgh, and book the first date that fits your travel, in your own name, from an account in your name. We do not quote waiting times, we never use bots, and we never buy a slot.
- 05
I am combining Portugal with Spain. Which country do I apply to?
The one with the most nights. If the nights are equal, the country you enter first. Lisbon, Porto, the Algarve, Madeira and the Azores trips usually make Portugal the main destination, but a week in Seville after three nights in Lisbon means applying to Spain. We check this from your bookings before anything is booked, because applying to the wrong consulate is a common refusal reason.
- 06
Why did Portugal's refusal rate rise?
The European Commission's figures show 1,533 of 21,015 UK applications refused in 2025, 7.3%, up from 3.4% in 2024, with the Manchester consulate at 10.6% against London's 5.7%. The consulates do not publish reasons by case and we cannot predict any individual outcome or guarantee a visa. What a prepared file does is close the grounds within your control: the main-destination rule, gaps in the itinerary, thin proof of funds or ties, and insurance that does not cover the whole trip.
