What accommodation proof does a Schengen visa need?
The consulate needs to know where you'll sleep every night, from arrival to departure. There are two routes, and you can combine them across a trip:

- Fly in Mon, fly out Fri → you need accommodation for Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu nights.
- Moving cities mid-trip → a separate booking for each city, with the dates butting up against each other.
A missing night reads as either a careless file or an undisclosed plan — both invite questions.
Can I use a refundable booking?
Yes — and it's the sensible default. A free-cancellation hotel booking is genuine, verifiable proof, and you can cancel it for a refund if you're refused. Two cautions:
- Don't cancel before the visa is decided. Some applicants book, submit, then cancel immediately — if the consulate re-checks the reservation and finds it cancelled, it looks like the booking was never real.
- Keep it genuine. Avoid fake "confirmation" PDFs. A real booking from a hotel or a reputable platform is what holds up.
Airbnb and booking-platform confirmations
Confirmations from Airbnb, Booking.com and similar are widely accepted as long as they show your name, the address and the dates. Download the PDF confirmation rather than a screenshot, and make sure the guest name matches your passport. For an Airbnb, the listing address and host name on the confirmation are usually enough.
