What it costs

Austria's UK visa applications are handled by VFS Global, and its £28.80 service fee, VAT included, is a verified figure taken straight from the official VFS Austria page on 24 June 2026. It lands Austria toward the upper-middle of the UK's Schengen cost table: not the priciest application you can make, but comfortably above the cheapest.

The anchor of every Schengen budget is the consulate fee, and it never varies: €90 per adult whether you apply to Austria, Spain or anywhere else in the zone, set by EU rules, immune to discounts from any service, and non-refundable if the application is refused. Children are the exception that helps families: ages 6 to 11 pay €45, and under-6s pay nothing at all. Insurance is the final mandatory item, defined by specification: at least €30,000 of medical cover across the whole trip, with qualifying policies starting from about £12.

What can add to the cost

Everything beyond the table is opt-in. Cheaper and pricier alternatives

Looked at against its neighbours, Austria is beatable on price but not by much of the field. Switzerland comes in at about £113 per adult on VFS's roughly £20 fee, and the Netherlands at about £111 on a verified £18. Above Austria sit Italy at around £125 and Germany at around £128. None of this is a menu you order from freely: Schengen rules require the application to go to your main destination, the country holding the most nights of your trip, so Austria's number matters when Austria is the centrepiece.
