When you need a translation

You need a certified English translation if:

• Your marriage certificate is not in English (or Welsh)

You don't need translation if:

• Your marriage certificate is bilingual with the English version on the same document (common for some Indian, Pakistani, and Filipino certificates)

• Translation without certification page — the translated text alone, without the formal translator's statement, is rejected.
• Photocopy of original alongside translation that's faded or unreadable — the original document scan must be clear so UKVI can verify against the translation.
